Reading/Work-piece
The Hamburg-born Fluxus artist Arthur Køpcke, which dealt with a fusion of art and life, created in his paintings, the “Reading/Work-pieces,” a score, composed as a collage of different picture elements. Often served as a chessboard pattern, registered in different colored characters that look like part of a solution.
In this picture, an act is painted in Neo-Impressionist style, which looks at the viewer seductively and lasciviously. Among them they are some playing instructions that prompt like Fluxus in the audience taking an active part. A car-like shape with the year 1957 closes the image at the bottom.
Køpcke would involve the viewer with using his art in active participation to the reception of the image. The results summarized in several parts ‘pieces’ emphasize the action of the recipient in the challenge of seeing and thinking. Daily visual habits can be checked and changed based on these images.
