Le Souffleur à la lampe

The wick isn’t still burning, but alone the lighting of the fire in the air stream makes boy’s face visible. Without its activity, the picture would be completely dark. The paintings by Georges de La Tour are most fascinating of a strictness, which is strengthened by artistic lighting. The mysterious darkness surrounds the few motives and directs the light on certain details. He is perhaps the most decided follower of Caravaggio, who had initiated a generation earlier in Rome with this exciting way.
